Lights Are On, But Tigers Don't Bring Enough Home

6/24/20

Mother Nature put the damper on the Tigers baseball plans with two rain-outs after they opened the season in Iowa. A trip to Windom and an exhibition game against Searles were both canceled due to rain.

A great crowd was on hand to see the Tigers play under the lights at home for the first time in over two years. Fans were also excited to check out the last big improvements at Riverside Park in preparation for the 2020 Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournament. People got their first in game look at the new pressbox, restrooms, and plaza area.

NOTES: Wednesday marked the first game under the lights for the Tigers at home since June 8, 2018. The flood in the summer of 2018 followed by the need to rewire and replace lights in the summer of 2019 made for 2 years and 16 days between night games at Riverside Park...Jordan Milbrath put on a Springfield uniform for the first time since 2013. Milbrath was drafted in the 35th round in 2013 by the Cleveland Indians. He played in the Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Miami and Arizona organizations before returning home to Springfield due to COVID-19 putting the 2020 baseball season at all levels on hold...This game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was shifted to Wednesday in hopes of finding another opponent for a Friday night game. Springfield had scheduled exhibition games against Tomahawk East League rivals Searles and Hanska in preperation for the opening of the league schedule, but rain and the unveiling of the 2020 regular season schedule scratched those contests...The Tigers lost a veteran in Alex Fink to the Windom Pirates. He is teaching and coaching there and had played for Springfield since 2010.

Tweet All About it: 249 socially distanced fans watched the Tigers fall 9-7. Offense had 13 hits but also stranded 13. St Clair jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two & held on for the win. Poehler, @BrandenFlock & @rsturm12 had 3 hits each & @5_deck had 2 knocks. Back at it Sunday @ 5:00 in Fairfax
