Five Run Second Sends Long Sox to State

Wednesday night's winner would clinch a spot in the 2020 MN State Amateur Baseball Tournament. With the new Region 2C Tournament format, it takes just two wins to be in.
In Lamberton's first trip to Riverside Park this season, it was a three-run eighth inning that gave Springfield the win over the Long Sox. This time, it was Lamberton putting up five in the second inning that was too much for the Tigers to overcome.
The Tigers drop to the losers bracket with the loss and will battle for the final spot with six other teams who have one loss in the tournament. Two of those teams will be eliminated on Thursday night. Springfield will host the winner of Stark and Fairfax on Friday night. After Friday night, there will be just two teams remaining. They will play on Saturday for third place.
NOTES: Wednesday night's loss was Springfield's first in their new red jerseys. They won ten straight, tied in Bird Island, and then won one more game while sporting "Springfield" across their chests this season...New Ulm and Lamberton will be the one and two seeds coming out of Region 2C with their wins on Wednesday night. They'll play for the region championship on Friday...Not only have there been big crowds of people at Riverside Park this season, but Mayflies have been showing up too. Thankfully, they don't bite like some other summertime winged visitors!...The last time the Tigers were held to just six hits was in their last game against Lamberton. Less than six? In a 2-0 win at Stark earlier in the season, they were held to just four hits...The Region 2C Tournament complete schedule can be found on the Tomahawk East League website.
