Errors Cost Tigers In Redwood Falls

6/13/07

Brandon Wilhelmi pitched well enough to win, but errors, both fielding and base running, cost the Tigers.  Former Tiger, John Jenniges, started for Redwood Falls and picked up the win, going the first seven innings and allowing just five Springfield hits.  In the game, the Tigers welcomed Jimmy Eckstein to the team and look forward to his contributions both in the field and at the plate.

The Redbirds took advantage of a Tiger error in the bottom of the second to get on the board, 1-0.  Jenniges held the Tiger bats in check until the top of the sixth inning.  Kyle Kraska led off with a solid base hit.  Brent Haseleu moved him to second with a sac bunt.  Brady Schwab continued to swing a hot stick, driving him in, to tie the game at one.

In the bottom of the seventh, Redwood Falls put together three hits to take a 2-1 lead.  The Springfield offense couldn't muster anything against the Redbird pitching in the final three innings.  Of the final eight Tiger batters, six of them struck out.  Redwood Falls added an insurance run in their half of the eighth, when a Springfield error extended the inning and they got a clutch two out single, bringing the final score to 3-1.

With the loss, Springfield's record falls to 6-4 on the year.  The Tigers return home on Friday night to take on the Gibbon Reds at Riverside Park at 8pm.  Springfield hopes to get back on track at the plate and in the field, as they face the Reds for the second time in a week.
