Tigers Start 2006 Season With a 10 Inning Victory

Tigers Blank Sleepy Eye

5/25/07

Springfield played their first weekday night game when Sleepy Eye came to town on a beautiful Friday evening.  The Tiger pitching staff continued to shine, hurling a 3-0 shutout.  The win pushes the Tigers record in the Tomahawk East to 2-1.

The Tigers had scoring opportunities early and often, but were unable to take full advantage leaving a total of twelve runners on base during the first five innings.  Springfield scored their first run in the bottom of the second when Andy Moritz knocked a one-out double into the right-center gap.  He came around to score on a Sleepy Eye error later in the inning.  The Tigers moved the score to 2-0 in the fourth when Brandon Wilhelmi ripped a one-out double.  After Matt Baier flied to center, Wilhelmi scored on a single by Ryan Sturm.  The Tigers scored their third and final run in the seventh when Springfield got base hits by Chris Sturm and Andy Moritz.  The Tiger threat was ended when they ran themselves out of the inning with a base running mistake.

Wilhelmi pitched an outstanding game, scattering just six hits over 8 innings.  Jake Miesen made his Tiger debut by striking out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth, retiring the side in order, for the save.  The Tigers continue their home stand on Sunday when they host the Stark Longhorns.
