Tigers and Bluejays Battle Again

7/26/20

Springfield and Essig were back at it on Sunday night. This time at Riverside Park. The Tigers pulled out the win, but the Bluejays battled, matching Springfield's bottom of the fifth and bottom of the sixth run tallies in their next at bat with five and one respectively.

The difference came with a single run in the second and two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth. The win moves the Tigers to 9-1 in the Tomahawk East with two games to go.

NOTES: The condensed regular season due to the COVID-19 pandemic made for playing each team in the league just once. A twelfth game was added to the league schedule to provide for six home and six road games for each team. Essig was Springfield's draw as the team they would play twice...Shawn Anderson made his first appearance for the Tigers in 2020. He made an unplanned plate appearance in order to remain in the game and pitch another inning after coming in to get the final out in the sixth. He came through with a solid single inspite of only recording ten total at-bats since 2015...Willy Vanderwerf also made his first appearance in a Tiger uniform in 2020...On Friday, New Ulm dropped out of hosting the 2020 Minnesota State Amateur Baseball Tournament. Springfield will now host with a to be determined site or sites.
