Tigers Start 2006 Season With a 10 Inning Victory

Tigers Lose a Tough One in Essig

5/14/06

The Tigers played their second game of the year traveling to Essig to take on the Blue Jays.  The teams exchanged runs in the first inning.  Essig took the lead in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs on three hits.  Springfield battled back with one run in the top of the fourth and took the lead with two runs in the fifth.  The score remained 4-3 until the bottom of the eighth when Essig started the inning with back-to-back extra base hits.  The Blue Jays scored two runs to take a 5-4 lead, which was all they needed as the Essig pitcher struck out the side in the Tigers ninth inning.

The pitching duties were handled by Jon Diede, Jesse Berg, and Brandon Wilhelmi.  Brandon Wilhelmi, Ryan Sturm, and Chris Sturm all had two hits leading the Tigers.  One hit each was added by Jon Diede and Jesse Berg.
